A bakery named after its founder, Ben, who had a vision of creating a space where he and young adults with disabilities could learn new skills, gain work experience, and contribute to society.
Ben & Co is a socially sustainable enterprise that started with the aim of providing people with disabilities with meaningful employment.
However, it has now grown to employ and further develop the skills of other young adults with intellectual disabilities. The company has created opportunities for these individuals to learn, develop and consolidate their skills in hospitality and retail.
The company was founded by Ben, a young man with Down Syndrome, who had a desire to contribute to society in a purposeful manner. He loved spending time in the kitchen baking and his baked goods were highly appreciated by his immediate family and friends. With the support of his family, he decided to share his products with the Toowoomba community.
The Success
The success of Ben’s baked goods was immediate, and it led to the creation of Ben & Co. The company has now expanded to offer a wide range of baked goods.
